You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through life.
Therapy helps you understand what’s happening beneath the surface—and gives you tools that can actually allow you to adapt how you feel, think, and respond. It’s not about changing your mind, It’s about learning what’s going on inside and how to make it work so you can thrive and live your best life.
At Downtown Counseling Associates, therapy isn’t about endless venting or vague advice. It’s structured, compassionate, and grounded in real clinical skill—so you can move forward, not just cope.
When you're ready to schedule your first appointment or just want to chat with a real person, use the button below:
You can simply notice a change in how you enjoy, experience, and go through your life. You don’t have to feel numb, disconnected, and concerned.
It’s also possible you haven’t noticed a change but your friends, partner, spouse, family, or coworkers have noticed you’re not yourself. They want you to feel good and be well- so they speak up out of love.
If something feels off, therapy is a resource that can help you understand why—and what to do about it.
It’s about making sense of your internal world and learning how to respond differently—on purpose. It’s about talking through your thoughts, in a safe space, to identify patterns and connections. Hopefully, drawing insights that can help you adapt and thrive in the world and pursue your passions.
Our therapists are here to help you:
This is active, collaborative work—not passive advice. When you’re ready, we’re here. We will encourage, guide, listen, facilitate, and lead but you will be the one pursuing change and growing. This is your place to focus on your life and what you want it to be. Let’s work together to address your concerns and discover solutions.
We’ve worked with many people, from many different backgrounds, across a spectrum of challenges. No matter what you’re going through, we’re here for you. We want to help you make the most of your time and grow towards the goals you set.
That means:
We believe therapy should feel safe, structured, and purposeful.
Coping keeps you afloat.
Learning to make it through each day isn't living. It's surviving.
You were made to learn, grow, and thrive. Don't settle for just getting by each day. Make time to take care of your mental health- your head, heart, and spirit.
Therapy helps you grow.

If something is impacting your mood, relationships, sleep, focus, or sense of peace—therapy can help. You don’t need a diagnosis or a breaking point to start. If you’ve noticed a change or someone you trust has noticed a change, maybe it’s time to talk to someone.
You can come and go as you please. Making your first appointment and coming a few times, doesn’t mean you need to do this forever. The goal is to help you reach your goals and then carry on!
It depends on your goals. Some clients come for short-term support (4-6 sessions) and others come with larger concerns or struggles they’ve been holding in for years and need more time to sort through. Some people make plans to come 1x monthly, 1x weekly, or a few times here and there when life gets the most overwhelming. It’s up to you.
We’ll be checking in to reassess together as you go. There's no one-size-fits-all plan. Our professional providers work with you, your goals, and your schedule.
Sometimes, therapy just isn’t right for you. That’s okay! Sometimes, it’s not the right time and sometimes you’re not paired with the right therapist. If you ever want to switch to another clinic or provider or have ways that we can accommodate your concerns, don’t hesitate to speak up!
We’re here to help you. We don’t get our feelings hurt when you take the step to speak up and tell us better what you need. Even if you’re simply on the fence and want to take a break from sessions and then check back in after several weeks, that’s okay too!
You know you best. We’re here to offer professional experience and expertise to help you maximize the opportunity but we are also here to work alongside you so that we work together in pursuit of your goals.
There’s no requirement for medicine. While we have professional psychiatric providers on our team, we don't push medication or want you to feel pressured or uncomfortable.
Many people are not appropriate candidates for medication. Some things in life can’t be helped with a pill. Some clients benefit from therapy alone. Others benefit from therapy along with psychiatric medication management. There are many people dealing with symptoms that they can’t seem to grow past, without a little extra help.
When appropriate, our therapy and psychiatry teams collaborate—so your care feels coordinated, not fragmented. Again, there’s no pressure. Just thoughtful recommendations.
Most people start the conversation with questions such as, “Do you take my insurance?” or “Will my insurance cover therapy?” Our goals is to make affordable therapeutic care as available as possible. We accept many major insurance plans with several carriers. We also will do our best to direct you to the appropriate resources and will try to help you understand your benefits before your first session.
If you’re unsure whether therapy is covered—or what it may cost—our admin team can walk you through it clearly and respectfully.
We accept many insurance plans and also offer private-pay options. If you have questions about coverage, deductibles, or payment expectations, our team is happy to help you understand your options before scheduling. Check out our insurance explainer page here.
If you’re ready for psychiatric care that prioritizes understanding over urgency, we’re here. Thoughtful psychiatry starts with taking time—and that’s exactly what we do.
